  • A Burn Ban Order is in effect for DeWitt County as of March 24th, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. - Order #2025-011

     

    The De Witt County Office of Emergency Management would like to remind residents of the unincorporated areas of De Witt County of Outdoor Burning Regulations mandated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

    TCEQ has generally prohibited outdoor burning with exceptions. These exceptions can be found in the TCEQ Outdoor Burning rules which have been designed to protect the environment and promote public health and safety. The Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 30, Part 1, Chapter 111.209 (1), (2), (3), (4)(A), (6), (7) provide the laws pertaining to outdoor burning exceptions and can be found at the TCEQ Website.

    If your situation fits all requirements for one of the exceptions described in the rule, you may conduct outdoor burning, on a burn day, as long as you comply with all the conditions.

    The authority to conduct outdoor burning does not exempt or excuse any person responsible from the consequences, damages, or injuries resulting from outdoor burning. It also does not exempt or excuse anyone from complying with all other applicable laws, ordinances, or regulations in Denton County.

    DeWitt County Office of Emergency Management utilizes the CodeRed Mass Notification System to deliver geo-targeted, time-sensitive alerts. Notifications an be sent via email, SMS, voice, mobile app push notifications, IPAWS and more depending on the severity of the situation.

  • City of Cuero Notification System.

    The City of Cuero, TX utilizes CivicReady for its Emergency and non-emergency mass communications to its community. CivicReady is a service that sends immediate alerts to Cuero's citizens who are subscribed to the system. 

    All users will have the ability to customize their notification preferences after signing up. Alerts can be sent via email, text, and/ or phone call so you never miss important communication about an emergency event in the area.

  • State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR)

    Who should Register?

    People with Access and Functional needs such as individuals with limited mobility, with communication barriers, who require additional medical assistance during an emergency, transportation assistance and who require personal care assistance.

    Do you or anyone you know need some assistance during times of an emergency event? The state of Texas presents the STEAR program. The STEAR program is a free registry that provides local emergency planners and emergency responders with additional information on the needs in their community. Texas communities use the registry information in different ways. Registering yourself in the STEAR registry DOES NOT guarantee that you will receive a specific service during an emergency. Available services will vary by community.

  • TDEM iSTAT

    Individual State of Texas Assistance Tool (iSTAT)

    The Individual State of Texas Assistance Tool (iSTAT) is a tool hosted by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) that allows individuals to report damages to private homes and businesses, and assists emergency management officials in assessing damages that occurred. This data will determine if the state of Texas and our communities meet federal thresholds for disaster assistance. The survey, available in both English and Spanish, can be accessed by visiting: damage.tdem.texas.gov. Reporting damages to the Texas Division of Emergency Management is a voluntary activity, is not a substitute for reporting damage to an insurance agency, and does not guarantee disaster relief assistance.

  • Flood Damage Prevention Order

    DeWitt County faces significant flooding as a major natural disaster throughout the years. In response, the County has become an active participant of the  National Floodplain Insurance Program to provide subsidized flood insurance to residents. As a condition of this program, the local government must implement and uphold a local Flood Damage Prevention Court Order to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of all families in DeWitt County. 

    Any violation of the court order could result in a fine up to $500.00 per day per violation. Please contact the Office of Emergency Management to work through any issues or concerns. Thank you.

Hurricane Preparations: When a hurricane threatens your area, evacuating is the smartest move. Know where your family will go when evacuation orders are posted. Do not ride out a hurricane in a car. Do not take risks that would place your or your family in danger.

The American Red Cross is responsible for providing shelters; however, no Red Cross shelters will be provided in Dewitt County for  hurricane evacuees. People needing shelter will most likely be directed to Red Cross shelters in San Antonio.
People needing transportation to shelters should register now by calling 211.

Because we can't see them, we seldom think about their location, potential hazards and tips for keeping the safe. Texas 811 Damage Prevention Call before you dig.  Every project that involves digging needs to be located before ground is broken.  When anyone digs in Texas, whether planting a tree or digging the foundation of a skyscraper, there is a high probability of an underground utility line being within the site.  This is a free service.  Contact Texas 811 for more information.

NOAA Weather Radio is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information direct from a nearby National Weather  Service office. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day 7 days a week. NOAA Weather Radio also broadcasts warnings and post-event information for all types of hazards- both natural and environmental. During an emergency, National Weather Service forecasters will interrupt routine weather programming and send out the special tone that activates weather radios in the listening area.

Who Needs NOAA Weather Radio? Public safety experts agree: the receivers should be standard equipment in every home. They are especially valuable in places that are entrusted with public safety, including hospitals, schools and places of worship, nursing homes, restaurants, grocery stores, recreation centers, office buildings, sports facilities, theaters, retail stores, and other public gathering places.
